Easing Comparisons Lift Chain Store Sales Growth

Chain store sales rose 2.1% in October from a year ago, but this was primarily on the back of easing comparisons and not a sign of resurgence in consumer spending. Though this is the case, cooler weather and early holiday shopping also helped provide some lift. Consumer fundamentals are not as poor as they were earlier in the year but remain restrictive for sustainable spending growth. Necessity spending continued to lead....
