Release Information

Data are disseminated on population numbers (in thousands) and cover the de jure population of Israel and Jewish localities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza Area.

The de jure population includes permanent residents (Israeli subjects and permanent residents without Israeli citizenship, including those who had been out of the country less than one year at the time of the estimate), temporary residents and potential immigrants (persons entering the country on a potential immigrant visa) staying in Israel and in Jewish localities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza Areas. Diplomatic personnel are not included in the data. There is no exclusion of special groups, such as refugees, from the data.

The data are based on the 1995 census, updated for births and deaths and migration flows. The census is conducted approximately every 10 years.

The methodological basis for the statistics follows the Principles and recommendations for Population and Houseing Censuses (and supplement), UN.

There are breaks in the end of period population series at 1996 and 2009 due to the 1995 and 2008 censuses being incorporated. For more information, please visit:
