Release Information

The statistics relating to the interest rate of the Euro zone financial institutions cover the interest rate applied by the establishments of credit and other financial institutions of the Euro zone to the deposits in Euros of the households and of the non financial corporations, as well as loans in Euros granted to these same agents. The new contracts correspond to all new agreement concluded between the customer and the financial institution.

On new releases the source states, "New business is defined as any new agreement between the household or non-financial corporation and the reporting agent. New agreements comprise:

i) all financial contracts, that specify for the first time the interest rate of the deposit or loan, and

ii) all new negotiations of existing deposits and loans."

French version available here in section 3.1

On new releases the source states, "The weighted average interest rate is the sum of the annualised agreed rate multiplied by the corresponding amounts and divided by the total. A double weighting is applied: first, by each reporting agent for its own data and then by the BCL for the aggregated data."

Data is revised on a regular basis in light of any new information that is made available.
