For Norway, these indexes describe growth in retail sales to private households of all new and used goods excluding motorised vehicles and petrol; to the five-digit NACE level; in value and volume (original and inflation-adjusted) terms; at the country geo-level only.

The index covers total retail sales to private households of all new and used goods excluding motor vehicles, from fixed or moveable sales outlet, a market place or via the Internet or mail order. It is regarded as an important short-term indicator of consumer demand and has been published since 1936.
Value indices show the development in turnover not adjusted for changes in prices (i.e., nominal). Volume indices show the development in turnover corrected for price changes (i.e., real), also known as the development in fixed prices.
The dataset includes up to 44 categories from the "47" (retail sales) division of the SN2007 classification.
Data Buffet includes three of the five adjustments. They do not necessarily each include all 44 categories.
From November 1999, the sample of retail stores has been supplemented gradually with turnover figures for chain stores reported directly by head office. As a consequence, figures for newly established and closed down units for the above-mentioned stores are also more up to date.
The monthly statistics are disseminated each month, between day 26 and 30, with a one-month lag.
For the all-items value index, we compute a seasonally adjusted supplement.
The full history of the SA figures is revised each period. Revisions to the NSA figures are uncommon.
Statistics Norway warns that SA numbers have extra uncertainty for March and April due to the moving holiday of Easter. In 2012 Easter was early in April, which influences turnover in March. The seasonal adjustment takes this into account, but it is hard to estimate all effects, and only when the April numbers are published can the SA numbers for March become clearer.
