The change in benchmark applies to two NAICS industries:
- Finance and insurance [52]
- Real estate, rental and leasing [53]
And has two consequences:
- At two geo levels, extension by four years, 1987 to 1990
- At three geo levels, all periods revised
Motivation: We have recently expanded our extract of the annual labor force survey for Canada (see related article), adding these two industries. The LFS results (a) closely align with our typical practices for labor force estimates and (b) extend history back to 1987.
Response: We have changed our benchmark for industries 52 and 53.
- Before: Apply shares from the National Household Survey and to parent industry estimates.
- After: For the nation and 10 provinces, benchmark to the LFS annual series.
What you will see: For the country and ten provinces, the estimates for these industries have been extended over the interval 1987 to 1990. Because the CMA estimates incorporate the provincial estimates, revisions apply to all periods for all geos at all geo levels (Canada, 10 provinces, 33 CMAs).
