The source writes:

Goods are classified into three groups, namely:

  • a) Swedish produced goods for the domestic market
  • b) Swedish produced exported goods
  • c) Imported goods

The items are classified according to an international nomenclature consisting of around 6,800 items. Each item is identified by a statistical number. Each statistical number can refer to a number of different items, which are identified through verbal descriptions and often article numbers.

Price indices in Producer and Import stages present in index form, price changes in producer and import stages in terms of five main series.

  • producer price index, home sales, HMPI, which refers to (a)
  • export price index, EXPI, which refers to (b)
  • import price index, IMPI, which refers to (c)
  • producer price index, PPI, obtained by aggregating (a) and (b)
  • price index for domestic supply, ITPI, which is obtained by aggregating (a) and (c) (adjusted for customs, import charges and taxes)

The five main series are shown together with a break-down by consumption, intermediate goods, capital goods and energy related goods. There is also a separate index series for petroleum products of four types of fuel.

For each of the five main series there is an industrial classification of production units i.e. the 1992 Standard for Swedish industrial classification (SE-SIC 92). SE-SIC 92 is a hierarchically based system with five levels, and an industry identified by a code, with one digit for each level. The population is made up of all items belonging to the following industrial groupings:

  • A Products from Agriculture, forestry and hunting
  • B Fishing
  • C Mining and quarrying
  • D Manufacturing products
  • E Electricity

The main variable is the producer price which is the price a production unit obtains when selling in the first phase. The price refers to ex works for the Swedish market and fob (free on board) for exports. For imports the price is cif (cost, insurance, freight). The price should be the average invoiced price over a month. Value added taxes and other taxes on goods are not included. However, for the index series for petroleum products, environmental and energy taxes are added to the price.

Apart from the average price, the main variable of the survey, information is also provided on invoiced currency, reporting currency (if price is not stated in SEK, mainly used for imports).

Prices are collected for a sample of items, representing all items produced in and imported to Sweden. The frame is data from the Manufacturing Statistics and from foreign trade statistics, which give production, export and import values for each industry and statistical number. The amount of price data collected is around 1,800 items for the Swedish market, around 850 for the export market and around 1,500 for the import market. Approximately 1,500 enterprises provide data. For many reporting groups the amount of price data is small.

Base year for the index series is 2015. The indices are published at 9:30 am approximately the 25 in each month. In February indices for the latest year is published.
