Release Information

For Vietnam, the producer price index is detailed by VSIC and reported as a moving-base index (equivalent to a year-over-year percent change). Annual from 2000.

A producer price index measures prices received by producers. The prices are at basic prices (i.e., excluding taxes).

The index covers the agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining, manufacturing, electricity and gas industries, but excludes military goods and precious metals.

Geographic scope: PPI of agriculture, forestry and fishing industries covers 37 out of 64 provinces, while that of mining, manufacturing, electricity and gas industries covers 35 provinces of main producers.

Weights: Derived from 2005 turnover data of the industrial sector and the 2005 agriculture production calculated at current price, as collected by the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The PPI of industrial production is compiled for 1200 products, based on the Vietnam Standard Industrial Classification (VSIC) which is derived from International Standard Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities (ISIC), but adapted to country needs.

Prices quoted by enterprises are collected through questionnaires which are returned by the 15th of every month.

For analytic convenience and international consistency, Moody's Analytics estimates an all-items PPI with a fixed base and at a monthly frequency.

The weights are updated at five-year intervals.
