Global concept alias:
The Bank of Guatemala reports a monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) using information from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The CPI measures the average price changes for a group of goods and services that the National Survey of Family Income and Expenditure 2009-2012 deems as most important in the final consumption expenditure of households.
Since March 2011, the CPI has been published based on the Basic Food Basket (CBA) and Vital Edge Pack (CBV) from December 2010 (2010=100). The CBA is composed of whole food, measured in quantities that are sufficient to meet the caloric needs of an average household, where an average Quatemalan household is comprised of 5.38 members. The CBV includes the food minimum and basic services, such as water, electricity, clothing, housing, health, education, etc.
Initially, CPI from January 2010 to March 2011 was reported such that 2000=100. Based on theSurvey of Family Income and Expenditure (ENIGFAM), CPI was rebased to 2010=100 to capture a more representative sample. Calculations of CPI(2010=100) for these periods are based on the following formula:
Prior to March 2011, CPI was reported such that 2000=100.
For the all-items index, we back-extended its history to 1957 using IMF data, and have constructed a seasonally adjusted (SA) counterpart.
